Below are notes from last night's discussion of briefs/motions for the remainder of the semester:
Annotated MotionsFor Friday, Nov. 18, all debaters not traveling to CUSID BP this weekend should bring two motions that they would set if they were CAs at a tournament this weekend. Shawn will lead collection/discussion/refinement of those on Friday morning and leave the list for me.
On Monday, when I return, I'll create a new annotated motions document and open it to all of you to claim your motions. You should then find at least one analytic, pro and con article for the one or two motions for which you're responsible. You should complete this before Sunday, Nov. 27.
Examples of motions and articles in the annotated motions format may be found in the "Readings" section of
seawolfdebate.info.
Philippines / South East Asia researchThe senior debaters will be responsible for developing brief topics related to motions they anticipate may be used at worlds in the traditional national/regional round. Those topics are due to me by Sunday, Nov. 27.
I'll refine that list and pass it along to Shawn for brief assignments to be distributed on Tuesday, Nov. 29. All those not going to Australia should take responsibility for one of those brief topics. Those briefs are due on Dec. 13.
Remember that there is no practice on either Tuesday (11/22) or Friday (11/25) of the holiday week. Have a happy Thanksgiving and best of luck to all of us at our final tournaments before Worlds!
